Live Portraits
What are live portraits and how do they work?
A live portrait is a drawing done looking at a person (or in some cases, artists will take a photo) right then and there at a market, event, or wedding in a short amount of time. I have my guests sit for me and I draw one person in about 5-8 minutes, two people in 10-12 minutes.
It’s a pretty gratifying feeling to see someone light up when they see themselves how I see them. Most are aware of live portrait drawing as caricatures which seek to exaggerate, but personally I love highlighting people’s unique features in a cute, flattering style.
How much does it cost?
My rate is $225/hour. The minimum time for any event would be one hour, and after a 30 mile radius from Portland, my minimum is 3 hours or I charge a mileage/travel fee.
It is typically first come first served, but we can also do a little wait list at the table and I’ll call out the names - this works better for smaller events.
All drawings are done on Bristol paper at 6×8” put in plastic slips.
What I need for an event:
A table and three to four chairs
If I am working 5-6 hours, a vendor meal
And that’s it!
