A beautiful June wedding at CedarVale Events!
Two months ago I had the pleasure of working for a couple getting married in Hubbard, Oregon- I had never been there but I absolutely loved the venue. CedarVale Events is a lush forest-enclosed space with the perfect amount of shade for live illustrating outside in the dappled sun.
Finishing touches on a guest portrait with a felt tip pen.
As a live portrait artist for weddings, I draw guests quickly while they sit in front of me, creating an intimate and memorable experience. They get to see what it’s like to have an artist capture them from observation of life, rather than from a photo. If I have two guests at once, I’ll often direct them to either look at each other or sort of turn partially toward each other, but facing forward works, too. All of the illustrations are small and convenient to take home on 6×8” bristol paper, but they’re also big enough for me to work in essential details to really make it look like them.
For this wedding I was only booked for an hour, but I always allow for an extra half hour of drawing time if demand calls for it, and the demand definitely called for it; I had a line of guests! I had so much fun capturing everyone’s likeness. This wind was proving a little difficult for the setup at times, and at one point a gust blew off my example drawings that we had taped to the table! But all was well and everything was rescued.
I love when my girlfriend joins me as my assistant at weddings (absolutely crucial for the pencil sharpening and sign holding), and working with other WLW vendors such as ServeDio Photo for a lesbian wedding made it all the more special!
